“What happened to me is not about me; This is about something much bigger. This is about how we as a community stand together and resist the injustice that’s happening. Hard-working people, and members of our family and our community, are being treated like criminals. We all collectively have to object to this madness because this is not justice. This is injustice. And we all have to stand on the right side of justice.” SEIU United Service Workers West President David Huerta
On Friday, military-gear-clad ICE agents launched aggressive raids throughout Los Angeles. At one location, SEIU United Service Workers West President David Huerta was assaulted, injured and detained while advocating for immigrant workers.
He remains in federal custody.
In the days since, the Trump administration has only escalated its attacks on the Los Angeles community and has now deployed the military against civilians. This is a clear attack on our communities, workers, and our First Amendment rights.
Unions are standing strong in support of President Huerta, as well as the millions of immigrant workers in this country who are being abused and raided at their workplaces and in their communities.
Actions are taking place in more than two dozen cities across the country today in solidarity with Los Angeles communities and to demand David Huerta’s release and an end to ICE raids. Climate activists are especially encouraged to show up in solidarity with immigrant workers and their families.
For anyone who opposes this assault on workers, communities, immigrants, and the Constitution, a huge turnout for No Kings Day on Saturday is one of the most effective ways to resist. Join the resistance on June 14 – the day Trumpis wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a military parade.
We are joining in on the mobilizations that show once again how organized people power is stronger than any authoritarian aspirations. Make sure your No Kings Day actions highlight Trump’s attack on immigrants, workers, and communities in Los Angeles.
