LNS is dedicated to economic, social and environmental sustainability. LNS seeks to educate and engage workers and the labor movement about sustainability issues, to educate and engage the sustainability movement about the interests of labor, and to build bridges between working people and sustainability activists. We believe that in order for our society to address the linked crises of climate change and inequality, workers must be engaged and part of the shaping of that future. We aim to help workers become creators of and participants in addressing climate change and building a sustainable future.

LNS is a project of VSF. VSF is dedicated to bringing together non-traditional constituencies in the effort to achieve a sustainable future for the planet and the people on it.  VSF seeks to bring together science, art and economics in ways not done before.  We believe that no matter how brilliant our attempts to inform, it is our ability to inspire that makes the difference, and passion through art must play a significant role in the transformation of our economy and our culture so that sustainability becomes a part of the way we live.

POSITION OVERVIEW [PDF version of announcement]

Team administrator will be supervised by the Executive Director and have primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of systems to support the operation of LNS, including database, calendar, communications system and central library system. This is a new position, and we would love to find someone who wants to grow with the organization. This is a half time salaried position, and location is flexible, though Washington DC area is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Information Management
  • Database
    • Assess database needs and review current database systems; prepare proposal for new data management system/software
    • Implement and manage new database
  • Organizational Calendar
    • Assess options for a new organizational master calendar
    • Implement new master calendar and maintain
  • Central Library and Data Management
    • Assess need for central electronic library/files; make recommendations to team
    • Set up and maintain central files as appropriate
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist with board meetings, program meetings and events
    • Provide support as assigned and appropriate for occasional meetings
    • Assistance four core team members with travel arrangements as possible and needed
  • Communication
    • Support the team by keeping effective notes for team calls and board meetings and distributing all relevant information to the team
    • Assist Executive Director with correspondence to funders and donors
    • Maintain board book
    • Provide communication support to core team as appropriate
    • Provide follow up for general information requests and web page inquiries
  • Contractors
    • Manage vendor and contractor records
    • Research, review, and recommend vendors as needed
    • Manage communication with vendors as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Nonprofit experience
  • Relevant organizing experience, understanding of organizing principles
  • Demonstrated experience in office coordination and administration
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including familiarity with Apple OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with database management software and services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED:

  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Knowledge of and desire to work in the environmental and labor movements
  • Familiarity with climate issues and challenges

SALARY:

  • Half time (approximately 20 hours/week); Annual Salary $20,800 –  $26,000
  • Position is open until filled.
